The main line starts in Section 34 of Harrison Township at Yellow Creek Lake, south of SR119 and east of CR 11. The system drains north through the middle of Harrison Township and outlets into to the Elkhart River in Section 15 of Concord Township north of CR 18 (Hively Avenue).
Yellow Creek is a significant drainage way through Harrison Township and the southern portion of Concord Township. The main line is approximately 12 miles in length and the system drains a 21,000 acre or 32.8 square mile watershed in the west central area of Elkhart County. In the early 1980’s a major reconstruction project was performed on the system.
It has several laterals which include Little Yellow Creek, Hoke Ditch, Fulmer Ditch with Bock Ditch and the Bechtel Drain system, the Owl Creek System with Andrew Wise and Fetters-Martin Ditches, Shaffer Ditch with the New-Miller Stutsman system Kehr Ditch, Landis Ditch and the Fetters Pletcher Drain to name a few. The original Petition for this system was filed with the Elkhart County Commissioner’s on June 04, 1889.
